Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure that tightens the vagina. This is done by removing excess vaginal lining and tightening the surrounding soft tissues and muscles.
During delivery of a baby the vagina and surrounding tissues and muscles become stretched. After delivery the vagina may return to a more “normal” size, but it often fails to return to its’ pre pregnancy diameter. Generally, the more vaginal deliveries, the worse the condition gets. Many women will complain of decreased sensation and sexual satisfaction during intercourse. Commonly this is due to a lack of friction. Often their partner may notice a change although he may say nothing.
Vaginal tightening surgery will tighten the vagina and surrounding tissues yielding a vaginal tightness similar to before the patient had children.
We have also had numerous patients who feel loose although they have never had children. On physical exam they indeed had a vaginal diameter that was greater than expected. Vaginoplasty surgery can help these women as well.
• To reshape your vagina.
• To satisfy your sexual partner as the first time.
• To rejuvenate your vagina.
• To correct the problem of stretched vaginal muscles resulting from multiple childbirths.
HOW WILL THE PROCEDURE BE PERFORMED?
The most common vaginoplasty technique performed on women in our community uses tissue from the existing genitalia to create the vagina (the penile inversion technique); although in some cases the lack of tissue may require additional skin grafts taken from the buttocks or near the hipbones.
It can be performed in women of any age.
The goal of the surgery is to increase the fiction experienced by sexual partners during intercourse, hence improving pleasure. Women often feel greater self-esteem after the procedure and improved confidence.
We perform this procedure under local anesthesia and complementary sedation.
You will be asleep during the procedure and will awaken within minutes after the surgery is completed. You will not be paralyzed or intubated during the surgery. Please note that this is different at other facilities where the patient is often awake during the surgical procedure. We feel that our patients are more comfortable using this form of anesthesia.
Between 1 and 2 hours.
You will have to rest between 24 and 48 hours.
After surgery, the patient is usually able to walk comfortably within a few days and may return to sexual activities within 4-6 weeks.
There is only minimal pain that is mostly gone by the second day and easily controlled by medications.
REMOVAL OF THE STITCHES
The stitches do not need to be removed, since an absorbable surgical thread is used.
BRUISES AND SWELLING
The incidence of bruises and swelling is minimal.
The scars will be concealed inside the vagina and they will not be palpable.
Vaginal tissues tend to heal very well.
